Why Follow Marco Bozem?

This is not a theory blog. Since 2022, I have been investing my own money in hard assets — shipping, mining, energy and pipelines. My portfolio (five-figure range) is publicly visible, my analyses are based on real positions, not price fantasies. Over 580 YouTube subscribers follow the real portfolio build-up in real time.

My Investor Journey: From Zero to a Hard Asset Strategy

2022: Getting Started — Frustration with Growth Stocks

In 2022, I started investing systematically — like most people at first: ETFs, growth stocks, tech hype. Then interest rates rose sharply. Growth stocks crashed 60–80%. My portfolio along with them. That experience was the turning point: I no longer wanted to depend on price appreciation. I wanted companies that send me money every month and every quarter, regardless of what the market does.

2023: Discovering Hard Assets

The search for real, physically secured cashflow led me to hard assets: shipping stocks (tankers earn money as long as crude oil is transported), midstream pipelines (Enbridge and others collect throughput fees regardless of oil prices), mining royalties (Franco-Nevada receives revenue from mines without operating them). These business models fascinated me: they pay dividends from real economic activity, not from accounting tricks.

2024: Building the Platform & Research Community

I began sharing my research on YouTube — and quickly noticed that many investors ask the same question: "How do I find stocks that pay truly sustainable dividends?" MB Capital Strategies was created as the answer: a platform with real analyses, real numbers, real positions. No affiliate-driven hype, no buy recommendations — just research.

2025–2026: Scaling & Deepening

Today the portfolio spans a five-figure sum, allocated across shipping (TORM, Frontline), midstream (Enbridge, ONEOK), mining (Franco-Nevada, royalty companies) and BDCs (Ares Capital). The platform has grown to 89+ articles, 34 stock analyses and 8 purpose-built financial calculators — all freely accessible. As a contributor on Investing.com, I also reach an international investor audience.

What Sets Me Apart from the Typical "Finance YouTuber"

  • Real money, real positions — Portfolio publicly visible, no theoretical recommendations
  • Sector focus instead of scattershot — Deep dives into shipping, mining & pipelines instead of superficial "top 10" lists
  • Metrics-driven — YOC, TCE, DCF, coverage ratio: I explain what actually matters
  • No clickbait, no buy recommendations — Just research. The decision is yours.
  • Free tools — 8 purpose-built financial calculators for dividends, YOC, shipping cashflow & financial freedom

My Investment Focus

Hard assets are the foundation of my approach: companies that extract, transport or store real physical goods — and pay predictable dividends while doing it. No growth hype, no storytelling. Just cashflow that can be measured.

My Approach: Cashflow Over Capital Gains

Most retail investors chase price appreciation. I invest differently: cashflow first. Dividends from hard assets — from companies that move real, physical goods — form the core of my portfolio.

Why Hard Assets?

Energy gets transported, commodities get mined, ships sail — regardless of what Mr. Market thinks on any given day. This economic reality provides inflation protection and delivers predictable distributions. My Hard Assets Guide explains the four core categories with concrete metrics.

The 80/20 Rule

80% of my focus goes to stable, predictable dividend payers — midstream pipelines, infrastructure REITs, mining royalties. 20% goes to more cyclical high-dividend positions like tanker & shipping stocks, which deliver outsized returns during up-cycles.

Background & Qualifications

Professional: I completed a vocational degree as Kaufmann für Büromanagement (German equivalent of a business administration apprenticeship) in 2019 and currently work full-time in a salaried commercial role. I am not a CFA, CFP, RIA, or licensed financial advisor in any jurisdiction.

Investor experience: I have been investing my own capital since 2018, with a primary focus on dividend and hard-asset strategies since 2022. My portfolio is documented publicly, including absolute Euro amounts, individual position weights, and monthly performance updates.

Why this matters for you: I am explicitly not a professional advisor. This means two things — first, I have no fiduciary obligation to you, so always do your own due diligence. Second, every analysis you read here is filtered through my own capital being on the line. I cannot afford to be sloppy in a way a sell-side analyst writing about a stock they don't own can be.

Portfolio Transparency

As of the latest update, my total invested capital is approximately €111,000 across three brokers (Scalable Capital, Trade Republic, CapTrader / Interactive Brokers). Sector allocation:

  • Shipping (tankers, LNG, dry bulk, container): ~25%
  • Mining (copper, gold, diversified): ~20%
  • Energy upstream & midstream: ~25%
  • BDCs & specialty high-yield: ~15%
  • Cash & opportunistic: ~15%

Lifetime dividend income received: approximately €6,200. All updates are published in the monthly portfolio report.
